The awstats package in Debian is pretty outdated. Etch has version 6.5. Sid has 6.7. Version 6.9 was released on December 28, 2008. I’m a statistics junky and the new version has better robot detection so I built an updated package on my lenny/sid machine: awstats_69-1_all.deb. This package also works perfectly on my etch server without changes.
I did apply all the Debian patches that were still relevant so it should be the equivalent of the official Debian package.

Thank you very much! You deb package installed just fine on Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS (Dapper).
It also seems to work well. However, in my website’s results, I had hoped that the table “Links from an Internet Search Engine” would no longer be topped by such an overwhelming share of “Unknown search engines”. I wonder what these are. AWSTATS claims to know so many engines, so WTF?
That was my original motivation for updating awstats. I think it’s easier and more accurate just to use javascript based analytics.
Awesome. I was somewhat shocked when I actually looked and saw that AWstats was so far behind. Thanks!
