I will agree to this with respect to images unless the change is merely a reduction of its footprint, such as when you use Photoshop to optimize the bits.  In this case, it&#039;s not worth it to rename the file.

That&#039;s because you&#039;re forcing everyone who has already using the image to download essentially the same one again, albeit smaller.  It&#039;s obviously faster to display the bigger image that&#039;s cached than the smaller image that&#039;s downloaded.</description>
